The Punjab Excise Department has introduced a significant incentive by slashing registration and token fees for electric vehicles (EVs) and electric bikes by 95%. This move is part of a broader effort to curb pollution levels across the province.
According to the Environment Department, transportation is responsible for nearly 80% of Pakistan’s pollution, with cities like Lahore seeing about 38% of air contamination caused by petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.

In light of this, environmental experts have praised the initiative, calling it a forward-thinking, eco-friendly policy that could lead to a considerable drop in harmful emissions if adopted widely.
Ahmed Saeed, Additional Director General of Excise & Taxation Punjab, explained that under this policy, electric vehicle owners are now only required to pay 5% of the standard registration and token charges. The government aims to incentivize the transition from conventional fuel-based transport to cleaner, greener alternatives.
So far, Punjab’s Excise Department has registered 14,357 electric scooters, 1,461 electric cars, and 36 electric rickshaws—an encouraging sign of growing public interest in EVs across the province.
