Punjab government plans to introduce Artificial Intelligence technology in agriculture. The initiative aims to support Farmers and improve agricultural productivity.

Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture Osama Leghari shared details about the government’s plans. He said AI could help predict crop yields and improve farming decisions.

The government wants to provide farmers with access to AI technology during its remaining tenure. The technology could help growers make better decisions using agricultural data.

AI-based tools can also support crop planning and productivity management. The government expects such technology to help improve farmers’ incomes.

Punjab Declares Year of the Value Chain

Punjab has also declared this year the “Year of the Value Chain.” The initiative focuses on improving connections between growers, businesses, and agricultural markets.

Leghari encouraged private companies to establish stronger links with Farmers. He said improved supply chains could reduce dependence on middlemen.

Direct connections with businesses and markets could also give growers a larger share of agricultural earnings.

The government is seeking greater private-sector involvement as part of its plans to modernize agriculture.

Pakistan Faces Food and Water Security Challenges

Federal Finance Minister’s Adviser Adnan Pasha highlighted challenges facing Pakistan’s agriculture sector.

He said climate change and population growth are increasing pressure on food and water security.

Pasha called for stronger partnerships between the government and private sector. Such partnerships could help modernize farming and attract new investment.

Investment is needed in climate-resilient seeds and water-saving farming methods. New agricultural technologies could also help address resource challenges.

World Bank Agriculture Specialist Olivier Durand highlighted limited market access as another issue.

He said Pakistan’s small Farmers remain poorly connected with markets, processors, and buyers. Better market connections could support agricultural trade and strengthen food security.

Syngenta Pakistan’s Zeeshan Baig also highlighted pressure on natural resources. He stressed the need to produce more food with limited water and other resources.
