Punjab Police have successfully thwarted 31 attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as Khawarij, across the province over the past 18 months, officials reported on Saturday.
Police sources revealed that 22 of these attacks were prevented in Dera Ghazi Khan, while nine were stopped in Mianwali. The operations led to the deaths of 43 foreign militants during retaliatory actions, they added.

However, the crackdown came with sacrifices, as 15 police officers suffered serious injuries in clashes with the Khawarij militants, confirmed the police.
Punjab’s Inspector General of Police, Usman Anwar, praised the force’s achievements, calling them “impressive,” and assured that the police remain alert to counter ongoing threats.
He emphasized the strengthening of border checkpoints to curb militant infiltration, highlighting recent upgrades including state-of-the-art thermal imaging cameras, modern weaponry, and enhanced technological equipment for continuous monitoring.
IG Anwar also noted that personnel stationed at tri-border areas and other key posts maintain heightened vigilance to detect and prevent any potential security breaches.
