Crowds gathered in large numbers at malls, bazaars, and shopping streets across Punjab during Easter celebrations, prompting authorities to strengthen security arrangements to ensure public safety.
Following the surge in public activity, Abdul Kareem, Inspector General of Punjab Police, ordered a province-wide high alert, including enhanced security measures in major cities such as Lahore.
Police officials confirmed that more than 17,000 officers and personnel have been deployed across Punjab, while over 3,000 officers are performing duties in Lahore alone to maintain law and order during the festive period.
The IG directed all personnel stationed at markets, recreational areas, and sensitive locations to remain on maximum alert. Specialized units, including the Ladies Squad, Dolphin Force, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force, have been assigned intensive patrolling responsibilities.
Authorities also ordered strict action against individuals involved in harassment or misconduct toward women in crowded marketplaces, emphasizing zero tolerance for public harassment during celebrations.
Meanwhile, surveillance is being strengthened through the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, whose cameras are monitoring business centers and shopping areas around the clock to quickly identify any potential threats.
IG Abdul Kareem further instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally supervise security arrangements, while inter-provincial border checkpoints remain under strict monitoring.
Police officials confirmed that combing operations, search activities, and intelligence-based actions will continue throughout the Easter period, reflecting the administrationโs commitment to maintaining peace and security.
With increased crowds and heightened vigilance, Punjab authorities aim to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for citizens celebrating Easter across the province.
