LAHORE – The Punjab Police has launched a major reform initiative, aiming to improve accountability and public trust across the province.
The project, directed by the Punjab chief minister, seeks to transform police culture and promote courteous and service-oriented behaviour. Citizens visiting police stations, offices, or checkpoints will now be addressed respectfully as “sir” or “madam.”
Officials have emphasized that strict action will be taken against police officers who misbehave with the public or fail to properly address complaints. New rules and regulations have been set to make polite conduct a standard practice throughout the force.
Authorities also warned that corruption, misuse of authority, and immoral behaviour by police officers will not be tolerated. The accountability system has been restructured to ensure officers are answerable for their actions, reducing excess of authority and unethical practices.
In a major technological upgrade, the Punjab Police will be equipped with cameras over the next two months. All operations, including raids, will be recorded to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of power. Cameras installed at police stations will also be fully functional, with live monitoring conducted from the Central Police Office by senior officials.
To further protect citizens, panic buttons will be installed outside police stations. These buttons will allow people to instantly report misconduct and other emergencies. A comprehensive strategy is also in place to reduce delays in registering cases and completing investigations, a longstanding public concern.
Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim has personally started contacting petitioners and applicants by phone to ensure complaints are promptly addressed. Officials say this direct engagement will help citizens feel heard at the highest level.
