Punjab Revises School Timings Amid Heatwave Alert

The School Education Department of Punjab has once again modified school timings across the province, responding to a fresh heatwave warning issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The new schedule takes immediate effect for all public and private schools.

According to the latest notification issued Friday, single-shift schools will now operate from 7:30am to 1:00pm, Monday through Thursday, while Friday classes will conclude earlier at 11:30am. Teachers are required to be present from 7:15am until 1:30pm throughout the week.

The change comes just days after the department had introduced a summer schedule starting April 1. However, the plan was re-evaluated in light of an anticipated spike in temperatures beginning April 14, attributed to a high-pressure system forming in the upper atmosphere.

The Met Office has cautioned that southern regions of Pakistan are likely to experience severe heatwave conditions from Monday, April 14 onward. In response, the education department stressed the importance of compliance with the revised schedule to protect students and school staff.

Parents have been urged to take extra precautions, including ensuring their children stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak hours.
