Big Move by Punjab! New Loudspeaker Rules That Everyone’s Talking About

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved strict enforcement of loudspeaker regulations to promote peace and interfaith harmony across the province. The move comes as part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen law and order and prevent the misuse of loudspeakers for spreading hate or extremist content.

The decision was finalized during a high-level security meeting, where the provincial administration reviewed measures to counter sectarian tensions and extremist rhetoric. Under the new directives, authorities will take firm action against any form of hate speech or incitement to violence delivered through loudspeakers or social media.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that religious freedom will remain protected; however, any attempt to create division or promote radicalism will face strict legal consequences. The loudspeaker regulations will be applied across multiple districts, with Kharian already implementing similar restrictions. In that area, loudspeakers are limited to prayer calls (Azaan) and Friday sermons only, ensuring religious gatherings remain peaceful.

To ensure compliance, Punjab authorities are introducing modern monitoring systems, including CCTV surveillance, to oversee the use of sound systems in mosques, processions, and public meetings. This technological monitoring will help prevent inflammatory speeches and promote responsible use of loudspeakers.

The loudspeaker regulations fall under the existing Loudspeaker Act, initially introduced to prevent sectarian violence but inconsistently enforced in the past. The latest initiative marks one of the most comprehensive implementations in recent years, reflecting the government’s firm stance on maintaining communal harmony.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also announced a digital mapping project covering more than 65,000 mosques across Punjab. The program will support proper registration and facilitate financial assistance to imams through welfare initiatives.
