The Punjab government has announced an ambitious plan to expand its “Sahulat Bazaar” network by establishing 30 new markets at the tehsil level. The tendering process for these bazaars has been completed, and contracts have now been awarded. The project aims to finish all new markets by June 30, 2026.
Currently, Punjab has 46 operational Sahulat Bazaars, which attract over 8.5 million visitors annually. Once the expansion is complete, the total number of bazaars will rise to 154, greatly increasing access to affordable goods for residents across the province.
The expansion plan also includes the creation of 15,400 new shops. These shops are expected to directly generate employment for approximately 30,000 jobs, providing work for 30,800 individuals. The initiative is projected to economically benefit more than 184,000 families, supporting both workers and local small traders.
The federal government has committed to ensuring affordable, transparent, and accessible business facilities for small entrepreneurs operating within the bazaars. District administrations have been tasked with identifying suitable government land for the new markets. Deputy commissioners will oversee the administrative responsibilities to ensure smooth operations.
Officials say the creation of 30,000 jobs through the Sahulat Bazaar expansion will strengthen the local economy and provide meaningful employment opportunities in both urban and rural areas. This effort is also expected to promote fair trade and affordable pricing for consumers.
The government has set a long-term goal of establishing at least one Sahulat Bazaar in every tehsil by the fiscal year 2026-27. This will ensure widespread economic benefits, create jobs, and improve access to essential goods for millions of people across Punjab.
Overall, the project highlights Punjab’s commitment to economic growth, employment generation, and support for small traders. By expanding the Sahulat Bazaar network and creating 30,000 jobs, the province aims to foster inclusive development while enhancing the shopping experience for local communities.
