Punjab to Install Surveillance Cameras in Marriage Halls, Marquees and Large Food Chains

The Punjab government has decided to install Surveillance Cameras in marriage halls, marquees, farmhouses, and large food chains across the province. The move is part of a broader effort to improve monitoring, increase tax compliance, and strengthen revenue collection.

The decision was made during a meeting on revenue matters chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials reviewed several proposals aimed at modernizing the tax system and improving transparency in business transactions.

According to government officials, the new monitoring plan will involve the installation of Surveillance Cameras at major commercial venues, including wedding halls, event venues, farmhouses, and large restaurant chains. Authorities believe the system will help identify irregularities and reduce tax evasion.

The meeting also discussed making digital payments mandatory in large restaurants. Under the proposal, customers would use digital payment methods instead of cash transactions. Officials said this could help create better records of sales and improve tax collection.

Punjab has set a revenue target of Rs528.5 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27. To achieve this goal, the government plans to use modern technology and stricter enforcement measures. Authorities said businesses found issuing fake receipts or hiding sales information would face legal action.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of adopting digital systems. She said many countries have successfully shifted from cash-based transactions to digital payment methods. According to her, Pakistan should also move toward modern financial systems to improve transparency and efficiency.

She also announced a zero-tolerance policy against tax evasion. The government intends to use both digital tools and Surveillance Cameras to detect violations and ensure compliance with tax regulations.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed departments to submit weekly reports on tax collection performance. She also instructed authorities to carry out sector-wise mapping and identify areas where revenue collection can be improved.

In addition, the Punjab Revenue Authority has been asked to strengthen its enforcement capabilities. This includes expanding its workforce, increasing operational capacity, and introducing advanced technology to support monitoring efforts.
