LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced major examination reforms ahead of the 2026 Matriculation and Intermediate exams. The key focus of these reforms is to improve transparency and stop cheating across the province.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting at the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE). Senior officials from all nine educational boards of Punjab attended the meeting. The participants reviewed current examination challenges and discussed long-term solutions.
One of the most important steps approved was the introduction of biometric verification for students. Under this system, students will be required to verify their identity biometrically before entering the examination hall. Officials believe this move will help prevent impersonation and fake entries.
The biometric verification process will use digital identification tools to confirm student data. This system aims to reduce forgery and ensure that only registered candidates appear in exams. Authorities expect this step to bring consistency across all boards.
Alongside student verification, several changes were approved for practical examinations. A standardized grading system will be introduced for practical tests. This will ensure uniform marking across different boards and subjects.
CCTV cameras will also be installed in laboratories during practical exams. These cameras will monitor exam activities and discourage unfair practices. In addition, a digital marking system will be launched to reduce manual errors and limit corruption.
Officials stated that these measures would improve trust in the examination system. The use of technology is expected to make exams more secure and reliable.
The government has also decided to increase payments for examination staff and invigilators. The aim is to ensure accountability and discourage dishonest behavior. Better compensation is expected to improve staff performance.
Task Force Committee Chairman Mazmoul Mahmood issued a clear warning during the meeting. He said strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in bribery or result manipulation. He stressed that no pressure or influence would be tolerated.
The Lahore BISE confirmed that complete instructions about biometric verification and other reforms will be shared with schools in advance. These guidelines will help institutions prepare students and staff before the 2026 exams begin.
