Punjab government has decided to introduce an E-Bike rental service for the first time to promote modern and environmentally friendly transportation across the province.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to improve urban mobility while reducing pollution and traffic-related challenges. Officials believe the project will provide residents with a convenient and affordable travel option for daily commuting.
Under the first phase, authorities will deploy 10,000 electric bikes in Lahore. To support the service, around 300 docking and charging stations will also be established across different parts of the city. These stations will allow users to easily pick up, charge, and return the bikes.
The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for the installation of docking and charging facilities. The project aims to improve connectivity between residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and public transportation points.
Officials say the E-Bike project is expected to play a significant role in reducing carbon emissions. The initiative could help cut thousands of tonnes of emissions annually in Lahore. This reduction is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to tackle air pollution and smog in the provincial capital.
Several government departments will work together to implement the project. These include the Lahore Parking Company (LePark), the Transport Department, Safe City authorities, and other relevant institutions. Their collaboration is intended to ensure smooth operations and public accessibility.
The service will be available to students, office workers, and other commuters seeking a cost-effective transportation solution. Citizens will be able to rent an E-Bike through a dedicated mobile application. This digital system will make the service easy to access and use.
According to the Secretary Housing, the project will help reduce traffic congestion, fuel costs, and environmental pollution. He stated that the government remains committed to introducing innovative solutions that improve transportation and environmental conditions across Punjab.
