From Helmets to Parking: Punjab Drivers Could Pay Fines Up to Rs20,000!

From Helmets to Parking Punjab Drivers Could Pay Fines Up to Rs20,000!

The Punjab government has revised the Motor Vehicle Act, introducing strict fines for a wide range of traffic violations. Authorities aim to improve road safety and reduce pollution in major cities, including Lahore.

Drivers in Punjab now face severe penalties for breaking traffic rules. Vehicles emitting smoke will be heavily fined: Rs5,000 for motorcycles, Rs10,000 for cars and jeeps, Rs15,000 for PSVs, and Rs20,000 for trucks and commercial vehicles. This move comes as Lahore continues to face a severe smog crisis.

Parking in no-parking zones or dumping garbage from moving vehicles will also trigger fines. Motorcycles face Rs2,000, cars and jeeps Rs10,000, PSVs Rs15,000, and heavy trucks Rs20,000. Drivers not wearing seatbelts will be fined Rs10,000 to Rs20,000 depending on the vehicle type.

Underage driving is now subject to the highest penalties. Motorcycles face Rs25,000, cars and jeeps Rs30,000, PSVs Rs50,000, and HTVs Rs1,00,000. Authorities stressed that this strict action is necessary to ensure road safety and compliance.

Using a mobile phone while driving carries fines of Rs5,000 for bikes, Rs10,000 for cars and jeeps, Rs15,000 for PSVs, and Rs20,000 for HTVs. Riding a motorcycle with more than two passengers or parking on footpaths will also result in heavy penalties.

The revised rules are part of Punjabโ€™s broader effort to improve traffic management and reduce environmental hazards. Officials have urged drivers to follow traffic regulations and highlighted that these fines will be strictly enforced across all districts.
