Punjab Traffic Police have collected more than Rs.9.9 billion during the first two and a half months of the year through traffic fines, driving licence fees, and recovery of pending e-challans.
According to traffic police sources, the collection includes billions of rupees generated from different enforcement and licensing activities across the province.
The authorities collected over Rs.3.75 billion through fines imposed on motorists for violating traffic rules. These violations included various breaches of traffic regulations, with digital monitoring systems being used to improve enforcement.
The Traffic Police also generated more than Rs.2 billion from driving licence fees during the same period. Officials have continued efforts to improve licensing procedures and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
A significant portion of the revenue came from the recovery of unpaid e-challans. More than Rs.3.9 billion was collected from pending electronic traffic fines across Punjab.
Officials stated that changes made to the Motor Vehicle Act contributed to the increase in overall collections. The revised penalties encouraged more compliance among road users and increased recovery from outstanding challans.
Traffic wardens are now issuing digital challans to motorists who violate traffic regulations. The system allows authorities to record violations electronically and maintain better tracking of fines.
Special teams have also been deployed in different areas of Punjab. These teams are working to recover unpaid e-challan amounts from vehicle owners.
Sources revealed that more than Rs.15 billion worth of e-challans are still unpaid across the province. The department is continuing recovery operations to collect the remaining outstanding amounts.
The Traffic Police have expanded the use of technology to improve traffic management and enforcement. Digital systems are helping authorities monitor violations and manage records more effectively.
