The Punjab government has launched a groundbreaking technical skills training program aimed at empowering transgender individuals and helping them secure a dignified livelihood. This initiative marks the first time in Punjab’s history that such a step has been taken for the transgender community.
In its first phase, the program will provide specialized training to 1,600 transgender individuals through the Punjab Skills Development Fund. The training will cover various technical and vocational skills, equipping participants with the tools needed for financial independence.

The program offers training in fields such as IT, freelancing, healthcare assistance, tailoring, fashion designing, electrical work, solar technology, beauty services, and culinary arts.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her concern about the mistreatment faced by transgender individuals, highlighting how social exclusion and lack of employment opportunities often push them into begging. She emphasized that the initiative aims to showcase that talent transcends gender, and it is designed not only to develop skills but also to ensure transgender people gain respect and recognition in society.
With this initiative, Maryam Nawaz Sharif hopes to make a transformative impact on the lives of transgender individuals throughout Punjab.
