Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Tianjin, China, to participate in the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. This summit, scheduled for August 31 to September 1, is set to be the largest in SCO history, with over 20 world leaders expected to attend. The gathering aims to strengthen regional cooperation and address global challenges.

The SCO, originally formed to counterbalance U.S. influence in Central Asia, has expanded to include nations such as Iran, Belarus, and Pakistan. The summit in Tianjin underscores China’s growing influence in the region. Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to promote a vision of a global order independent of U.S. dominance and highlight solidarity with Russia amid Western sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also arrived in Tianjin to attend the summit. His visit marks the first to China in seven years and is seen as an effort to stabilize bilateral relations. Modi is scheduled to meet with President Xi Jinping to discuss economic ties and regional stability.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is another key attendee. His participation highlights Turkey’s growing engagement with the SCO, reflecting a shift in global alliances.

The summit’s agenda includes discussions on regional security, economic cooperation, and multilateral collaboration. Leaders are expected to sign the Tianjin Declaration, outlining the SCO’s commitment to addressing contemporary challenges and promoting a multipolar world order.

The SCO summit in Tianjin marks a significant moment in international diplomacy, bringing together leaders from across Asia and beyond to shape the future of regional cooperation. As the summit progresses, the world will be watching closely to see how these discussions influence global dynamics
