Rain and Dust Storms to Ease Heatwave in Islamabad Starting Today

Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi can expect some respite from the scorching temperatures, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast dust storms and rain-thundershowers for the weekend.

On Saturday, the twin cities endured sweltering heat, with temperatures reaching 38ยฐC and a RealFeel of 42ยฐC. However, by evening, weather conditions are expected to shift, bringing a 30% chance of isolated rain and dust storms. The likelihood of precipitation increases on Sunday, with a 55% chance of rain, thunderstorms, and even hail in some areas.

The rainfall is attributed to a westerly wave affecting the upper and central regions of Pakistan, which is expected to persist for the next 2โ€“3 days. Officials noted that the cloud cover and anticipated rain may offer short-term relief from the high temperatures and UV levels, which peaked at an extreme index of 12 on Saturday. Earlier in the day, hazy skies and westerly winds at 9 km/h did little to ease the discomfort.

Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeast Balochistan, central and southern Punjab, and upper Sindh. Despite this, much of the southern and western regions of the country will continue to experience hot and dry weather.
