DUBAI โ Muslims worldwide are preparing for Ramadan 2026, which is expected to begin around mid-February. According to early astronomical predictions, the holy month will likely start on Thursday, February 19, or Friday, February 20, marking the beginning of a period of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth.
The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in the UAE has indicated that Ramadan 2026 may start between February 17 and 19, with February 19 being the most probable date for the first day of fasting. The holy month is expected to end on March 19, 2026, depending on the moon sighting.
As with all Islamic months, the official start of Ramadan 2026 will be confirmed by the UAEโs moon-sighting committee. The duration of fasting could be either 29 or 30 days, based on the lunar calendar.
Following the end of Ramadan, Eid ul-Fitr is projected to fall on Friday, March 20, 2026. This will likely coincide with the UAEโs first long weekend of the year, allowing families to celebrate together after a month of devotion and restraint.
The Emirates Astronomical Society reported that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan will be born at 4:01 p.m. UAE time on Tuesday, February 17.
However, it will set just one minute after sunset, making it impossible to be sighted that evening. According to the societyโs chairman, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, this makes Thursday, February 19, the most likely date for the start of fasting.
During Ramadan, fasting hours in the UAE will start at approximately 12 hours and 46 minutes and gradually extend to 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of the month.
