More than Rs6.5 million was allegedly stolen from an Edhi Centre in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area, prompting a police investigation and directions from the Sindh chief minister to trace the suspects.
A robbery case was registered following a complaint by Edhi employee Mazhar Abbas.
According to the complaint, four armed men travelling on two motorcycles followed Edhi employees after they withdrew cash from a private bank.
The suspects allegedly entered the Edhi Centre, took the money and fled.
Cash Was Intended for Employees’ Salaries
Edhi Home administration said the cash withdrawn from the bank was intended for the distribution of employees’ salaries.
According to the FIR, the robbery took place at around 4pm on Friday.
Three of the suspects allegedly entered the premises while a fourth remained outside.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and began collecting evidence.
Police Obtaining CCTV Footage
Investigators are recording statements from eyewitnesses as part of efforts to establish how the robbery unfolded.
Police are also obtaining CCTV footage that could help identify the suspects and determine their movements before and after the incident.
No arrests were reported in the information available from the source.
Sindh CM Seeks Report
The Sindh chief minister has sought a report from the Inspector General of Police over the incident.
Authorities have also been directed to trace the suspects.
The investigation now centres on eyewitness accounts and available surveillance footage. These could provide police with further information about the four people accused of carrying out the robbery.
