Renowned Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has filed a Rs. 100 million defamation lawsuit against local journalist Naeem Hanif, accusing him of making false, defamatory, and morally damaging remarks during a recent podcast appearance.
The Kamli and Besharam star shared the news on her Instagram account on Tuesday, posting images of the legal notice issued by her counsel. The notice accuses Hanif of spreading malicious allegations that not only questioned her character but also sought to undermine her professional integrity and public reputation.
According to the legal documents, Sabaβs legal team argues that Hanifβs comments were made βwith the deliberate intention to harmβ her reputation and career. The notice demands a formal public apology, removal of all defamatory content, and Rs. 100 million in damages as compensation for emotional distress and reputational harm.
The actress warned that if the journalist fails to comply within seven days, full civil and criminal proceedings will follow under Pakistanβs defamation and cybercrime laws.
Fans and fellow celebrities have rallied behind Saba on social media, praising her decision to take a firm legal stance against the growing trend of character assassination through digital platforms. The case highlights ongoing concerns about ethical boundaries in entertainment journalism and the legal protection of artists in Pakistanβs media ecosystem.
