The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province to restrict outdoor drone flights.

The restriction covers a period of 30 days and has been introduced over security concerns.

According to the Punjab Home Department, the order aims to protect public safety. It also seeks to maintain law and order across the province.

Officials said the measure would help protect public and private property. The restriction applies to drones operated in open areas across Punjab.

The ban has been issued under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The Punjab Home Secretary issued the order under the relevant legal provisions.

The government has, however, allowed limited drone use during indoor events. Small drones can be used inside halls and marquees.

Event organisers will remain responsible for the safe and lawful operation of drones. They must ensure that the devices are used only within permitted indoor areas.

The restriction does not apply to intelligence agencies. Law enforcement institutions are also exempt when using drones for official duties.

The Home Department has directed district administrations to enforce the order. Police authorities across Punjab have also been asked to ensure compliance.

Officials said public safety remains a key priority behind the restriction. Maintaining peace and protecting people and property were also cited.

A committee has also been established to consider requests for outdoor drone use. Anyone seeking permission must obtain a no-objection certificate, or NOC.

Applicants will need approval from the committee before operating a drone in an open area. This requirement provides a formal process for authorised outdoor drone activity.

Punjab has previously introduced similar restrictions on outdoor drone operations. The provincial government extended such bans several times during 2026.

Earlier orders also allowed limited use of small drones at indoor events. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies remained exempt from those restrictions.

The latest Section 144 order comes amid continued security concerns in the province. Authorities have taken several measures involving public safety and security.

Drone technology has become increasingly common for filming, surveillance and event coverage. However, unauthorised outdoor flights can create security and safety concerns.

The new restriction therefore places tighter controls on drone operations in open areas. Drone users are required to follow the official permission process.

Those planning outdoor drone activity should check the applicable requirements before operating their equipment. The NOC process will determine whether permission is granted.

The Section 144 restriction is expected to remain in effect for the specified 30-day period. Any changes or further extensions would depend on subsequent government orders.
