Authorities in Diamer district have imposed Section 144 ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026. The decision aims to maintain law and order during the sensitive election period.
According to district officials, Section 144 came into effect on June 5, 2026. The administration said the restrictions are necessary to prevent any potential unrest and ensure peaceful polling activities.
Under the orders, the public display of weapons has been strictly prohibited. Authorities have also banned aerial firing, fireworks, and unauthorized drone operations across the district.
Officials stated that enhanced security monitoring has been introduced around sensitive locations. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to remain vigilant throughout the election process.
The administration warned that anyone violating Section 144 will face strict legal action. However, law enforcement personnel performing official duties are exempt from the restrictions.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026 are considered significant due to their scale and administrative importance. Thousands of government employees have been assigned election-related responsibilities across the region.
Official figures show that nearly 7,500 officers and staff members will take part in election duties. A total of Rs276 million has been allocated for honorariums and election-related payments.
According to the allocation plan, 24 Returning Officers will collectively receive Rs1.8 million. Assistant Returning Officers have been allocated Rs1.2 million for their services.
More than 1,350 Presiding Officers will share Rs16.416 million in honorariums. Meanwhile, 2,450 Assistant Presiding Officers have been allocated Rs24.5 million.
Another Rs24 million has been reserved for 2,450 Polling Officers. These officials will play a key role in managing polling stations and ensuring smooth voting operations.
In addition, around Rs208 million has been earmarked for over 1,360 government employees. These include Lower Division Clerks (LDCs), Upper Division Clerks (UDCs), and support staff involved in election management.
Authorities believe that Section 144 will help create a secure environment for voters and election workers. Security measures are expected to remain in place throughout the electoral process.
Officials have urged residents to cooperate with authorities and follow all regulations issued under Section 144. They emphasized that these measures are intended to ensure peaceful and transparent elections across the district.
