The District Police Officer (DPO) of Murree has imposed Section 144 to ensure tourist safety during New Year celebrations. The order will remain in effect from December 31 to January 1.
Under Section 144, entry to Mall Road and GPO Chowk in Murree will be restricted to families only. Individuals without families will not be allowed in these areas but can celebrate in surrounding locations, including New Murree and Galiyat.
The DPO warned that aerial firing, fireworks, alcohol consumption, and disorderly conduct are strictly prohibited. Violators will face strict legal action to maintain law and order.
Tourists are advised to follow traffic regulations and comply with police instructions. In case of emergencies, visitors can contact helpline 15 for immediate assistance.
Meanwhile, the district administration has extended Section 144 to Rawalpindi until January 1. During this period, security personnel will remain on high alert, and rallies, processions, and public gatherings are banned.
Authorities have also prohibited loud music systems, loudspeakers, hooliganism, and stunts such as one-wheeling. All forms of gatherings, aerial firing, and fireworks will not be allowed on New Yearโs night.
The enforcement of Section 144 in Murree and Rawalpindi aims to prevent accidents, ensure public safety, and allow families to enjoy celebrations peacefully. Police and district officials are coordinating to monitor tourist spots and crowded areas closely.
Residents and tourists are encouraged to plan their New Year festivities responsibly and avoid restricted zones. Authorities emphasized that adherence to the rules under Section 144 will help maintain order and prevent untoward incidents during the holiday period.
The implementation of these measures highlights the governmentโs focus on public safety during major events and crowded tourist destinations. Both Murree and Rawalpindi police have assured strict but fair enforcement to ensure a safe New Year for everyone.
