A senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader narrowly escaped a deadly attack late Saturday night in Karachi, officials confirmed on Sunday. The shocking incident has raised serious concerns about the cityβs deteriorating law and order situation.
According to police, the Senior PPP leader survives murder attempt when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his convoy near the cityβs Clifton area. The attackers, riding on two motorbikes, ambushed the vehicle as it approached a traffic signal. Security personnel accompanying the leader swiftly retaliated, forcing the assailants to flee the scene.
Initial reports suggest that at least 15 rounds were fired during the attack. Fortunately, the PPP leader and his guards escaped unhurt, though one vehicle sustained multiple bullet impacts. The area was immediately cordoned off as police teams collected shell casings and CCTV footage from nearby buildings to identify the culprits.
Sindh Home Minister directed law enforcement agencies to launch a full-scale investigation. βThis cowardly act will not deter our commitment to democracy and peace,β he said, vowing swift justice for those involved.
PPP spokespersons strongly condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the democratic values the party stands for. They urged authorities to provide enhanced security to political leaders ahead of upcoming rallies and public meetings.
Police officials have registered an FIR and transferred the case to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for further investigation. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
This marks the latest in a series of targeted assaults on political figures in Karachi over recent months. The Senior PPP leader survives murder attempt, but the event has reignited public debate over the governmentβs ability to curb rising political violence in the province.
Authorities continue to search for the suspects as the Senior PPP leader survives murder attempt becomes the focal point of political and security discussions across Sindh.
