Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meets Today For Shawwal Moon Sighting

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meets Today For Shawwal Moon Sighting

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Islamabad today to sight the Shawwal moon. The meeting will decide the date for Eid ul-Fitr across the country.

The session will be led by Chairman Moulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also gather in their respective cities. They will collect moon sighting reports and share findings with the central body.

Officials said the final announcement about the Shawwal moon will be made after reviewing all evidence. Religious scholars and meteorological experts will take part in the process. The decision will confirm whether Eid ul-Fitr will be observed the next day or later.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission has shared its prediction. According to SUPARCO, the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon on the evening of March 20 are very low. Experts believe Ramadan will likely complete 30 days this year.

Based on these estimates, Eid ul-Fitr in 2026 is expected to fall on March 21. However, the final decision will depend on official moon sighting reports received today. Authorities emphasized that only confirmed sightings will determine the date.

Weather conditions may also affect visibility. The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather alert for several regions. Rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected from March 17 to 25.

A westerly weather system is likely to impact northern and western parts of the country. Cities such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, and Sialkot may experience rain and windstorms. Some areas in upper Punjab could also face hailstorms.

Experts say cloudy skies may reduce the chances of moon visibility in many regions. This could further support predictions of a full 30-day Ramadan.

Authorities have advised citizens to stay updated through official announcements. They have also urged people to follow safety guidelines during the expected weather conditions.

The meeting today is important for millions of Muslims in Pakistan. The outcome will mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebrations nationwide.
