The Sindh High Court (SHC) constitutional bench heard petitions on Wednesday related to the recovery of missing persons. The court reviewed reports submitted by police regarding multiple cases.
According to the police report, two individuals who were previously listed as missing persons have returned home. These include Taj Muhammad from the SITE police jurisdiction and Muhammad Tariq from Baghdadi area.
Police informed the court that several agencies had been contacted to trace other missing persons. However, some individuals still remain untraced despite ongoing efforts.
After receiving confirmation of the return of two citizens, the court disposed of the related petitions. The bench noted the update in the official record and closed those specific cases.
However, the court expressed concern over the handling of remaining missing persons cases. It directed police to take stronger and more effective steps for recovery.
In earlier hearings, the same bench had also dismissed petitions after confirming the return of Zulfiqar and Abdul Haq. These individuals were also listed as missing persons before being recovered.
During the hearing, Justice Zafar Rajput raised questions about investigation procedures. He expressed dissatisfaction over the progress made in tracing missing persons.
The judge asked whether proper investigation methods and SOPs were being followed. He also questioned whether details such as identity cards, passports, and bank records were checked during the process.
The investigation officer informed the court that letters had been sent to relevant departments. However, he added that no response had been received so far, which slowed down efforts to trace missing persons.
The bench emphasized the need for improved coordination between departments. It said that timely action is essential in such sensitive cases.
The court instructed law enforcement agencies to strengthen their efforts. It also stressed that recovery of missing persons should be treated as a priority.
Overall, the hearing highlighted both progress and ongoing challenges. While some individuals have returned home, several missing persons still remain unaccounted for, prompting further judicial concern and action.
