A total of 1,150 rural women have completed vocational training and secured jobs under Punjab’s She Thread program. The initiative aims to improve women’s employment opportunities through practical, market-oriented skills.
The program focuses on preparing women for jobs in Pakistan’s textile and garment industry. It provides professional training and helps participants access employment opportunities after graduation. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target of training 2,500 rural women by June 2027. The initiative is part of efforts to improve women’s economic participation and support financial independence.
Participants receive a monthly stipend of Rs.15,000 during their training. This financial support helps women manage their expenses while learning new professional skills. Meanwhile, the Women Development Department has started registration for women living in rural areas of Lahore. The department is inviting eligible candidates to apply for the training program.
Training sessions are being conducted at Shahkam Industries on Multan Road. Participants learn to operate industrial sewing machines and work as apparel supervisors. The three-month course combines classroom instruction with practical training. Its curriculum focuses on skills required by employers in the textile industry. This approach aims to prepare participants for workplace responsibilities.
She Thread program eligibility and registration
Women between 18 and 45 years old can apply for the She Thread program. Applicants must have a Punjab domicile and at least a matriculation qualification.
Interested candidates can register at Shahkam Industries. They must submit their national identity cards and domicile certificates during registration. Selected applicants are also required to provide an affidavit before admission. Their documents and eligibility will be checked before they join the training course.
Women seeking further information can contact assistant commissioners and union council secretaries. They can also approach relevant district offices for registration guidance and eligibility details. The program aims to connect rural women with employment opportunities in the textile sector. Its training structure focuses on practical skills that can help participants enter the workforce.
Punjab government targets more trained women
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative would equip rural women with skills relevant to industry requirements. She highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for women to earn a sustainable livelihood.
She also said the program would support employment after training. Participants are expected to gain skills that match the needs of textile businesses. With 1,150 women already trained and employed, the government aims to expand the initiative. The target of 2,500 trainees by June 2027 will guide its next phase.
