$8.5 Billion Deal: What Shehbaz Sharif’s China Visit Means for Pakistan’s Future

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded his official visit to China with the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth $8.5 billion. The development marks a major step in strengthening economic ties between Pakistan and China.

During the trip, companies from both countries signed agreements worth $1.5 billion. These agreements aim to boost trade, investment, and industrial collaboration. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that such initiatives would help build long-term economic partnerships.

In addition, both sides signed MoUs worth $7 billion. These agreements cover projects related to infrastructure, development, and investment. The prime minister assured that a system has been created to ensure transparent implementation of these agreements.

At the farewell ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to achieve the goals set during the visit. He said the new agreements would bring practical benefits to both nations.

On Thursday, the prime minister met Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive progress in bilateral relations. They signed agreements to expand cooperation under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The two countries agreed to work together on five new economic corridors, focusing on agriculture, mining, textiles, industry, and information technology.

They also signed agreements in science, media, and technology. A joint action plan was introduced to strengthen the strategic partnership.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Chinese leadership and people for their consistent support of Pakistan’s regional integrity and socio-economic development.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s plan to issue Panda Bonds in the Chinese market and stressed the early completion of projects such as the Karakoram Highway, Main Line-1 railway, and Gwadar Port.

The visit concluded with a luncheon hosted by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, symbolizing the commitment of both nations to deepen economic and strategic cooperation.
