Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif has expressed disappointment over the governmentβs failure to honor its promise of financial assistance following his historic achievement of climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Shehroze Kashif wrote that despite multiple assurances, no support was provided. βMy government promised support, but all was forgotten. I sold my land, my car, and remain in debt from past expeditions. How can you do this to someone who raised Pakistanβs flag on all 14 eight-thousanders?β he stated.
The young climber tagged Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, urging them to take immediate notice of his situation.
According to Shehroze, he spent nearly Rs 40 million on his mountaineering expeditions and is now struggling to manage his financial burden. He also revealed that he underwent a major back surgery, during which metal rods were inserted into his spine. βNo one even took responsibility for my medical bills,β he added, highlighting the lack of institutional support.
The 22-year-old mountaineer, often celebrated as the pride of Pakistan, said the governmentβs silence has left him disheartened. βIf this continues, I might consider moving abroad to pursue better opportunities,β Shehroze Kashif said, hinting at frustration over the countryβs neglect of its national heroes.
Shehroze Kashif holds the record as the youngest Pakistani to summit all 14 of the worldβs highest peaks, an accomplishment that brought global recognition to Pakistanβs mountaineering community.
Despite his monumental achievements, his current struggle reflects the broader challenges faced by Pakistani athletes and adventurers who receive little financial or institutional backing after representing their nation on international platforms.
