Flight Operations Suspended at Sialkot Airport for 12 Hours Due to Flood Threat

Flight Operations Suspended at Sialkot Airport for 12 Hours Due to Flood Threat

Flight operations at Sialkot airport have been suspended for 12 hours amid rising flood threats in Punjab. The suspension will remain in effect from 10 am to 10 pm today (August 28), according to an official NOTAM.

Floodwaters are approaching the airport from the southern side, raising concerns for the safety of facilities. Authorities have taken precautionary steps to avoid any untoward incident and ensure the protection of key infrastructure.

A spokesperson for SIAL confirmed that all human resources and machinery are actively working on the ground. Timely drainage of floodwater is being carried out, with dewatering pumps deployed in vulnerable areas. Officials assured that all equipment installed at Sialkot airport remains completely safe.

Most main areas, including the terminal building, parking lots, and runway, are secure and operational. The management continues to monitor the situation closely while implementing safety measures to minimize risks.

In a related development, all public and private educational institutions in the district remained closed on Thursday. The decision was made after heavy rains and worsening flood conditions disrupted daily life in several areas.

Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali issued a notification announcing the closure of schools and colleges. The directive was aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and staff. All relevant authorities have been instructed to strictly follow the orders in the larger public interest.

The suspension of flight operations at Sialkot airport highlights the scale of the flood emergency in Punjab. Officials are confident that with timely action, the airportโ€™s critical infrastructure will remain protected.

Travelers are advised to check with airlines for flight updates before heading to the airport.
