A significant breakthrough has been made in the shocking Sidra murder case, where the young girl was allegedly killed in the name of honor in Rawalpindi.
The police have identified three key suspects — Sidra’s father, father-in-law, and uncle — as the individuals responsible for her death.
Investigations reveal that Sidra was suffocated with a pillow at her uncle’s house, located in Rawalpindi.
The murder was carried out with the help of her father, Arab Gul, and father-in-law, Saleh alias Saleem, who is also her paternal uncle. All three suspects are biological brothers.
Authorities have recovered crucial evidence from the crime scene, including the pillow and bed sheet used to suffocate Sidra, as well as items used for the ritual washing of her body.
CCTV footage has also surfaced, showing Sidra’s body being transported to the graveyard in a loader rickshaw. In the footage, ten people can be seen unloading the body for burial.
Police sources have confirmed that the murder occurred inside a room in front of community members, following a decision made by a tribal jirga.
The jirga, led by a man named Ismatullah, was held at his residence. Fourteen people, including both men and women, participated in the planning and execution of the murder. So far, six individuals have been arrested, while eight remain at large.
Confessions from the arrested suspects have led police to launch a manhunt for the remaining individuals involved, including the women who assisted in washing the body before its burial.
A four-member legal team, led by the district public prosecutor, has been formed to assist in the case’s legal procedures, evidence review, and follow-up.
The Sidra murder case has brought attention to the ongoing issue of honor killings, with law enforcement agencies working to ensure justice for the victim and to hold the responsible parties accountable.
