The Sindh government has approved a major Fuel Subsidy package worth Rs515 million for fishermen across the province. The move is aimed at supporting the fisheries sector and reducing the financial burden caused by rising fuel prices.
Officials said the subsidy package would help fishermen continue their operations and support economic activity in coastal areas. The fisheries sector remains an important source of employment and income for thousands of families in Sindh.
The decision was taken after concerns raised by Member of the National Assembly Agha Rafiullah regarding the increasing difficulties faced by the fishing community. He highlighted that higher fuel costs had severely affected daily fishing operations and reduced earnings for many workers in the sector.
According to Agha Rafiullah, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was informed about the situation during a meeting. He said Bilawal Bhutto issued immediate instructions after receiving details about the challenges facing fishermen.
Officials stated that the approved Fuel Subsidy package reflects the provincial government’s effort to provide practical relief to coastal communities. Authorities believe the support will help stabilize the fisheries industry during difficult economic conditions.
Agha Rafiullah thanked Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Sindh government for taking quick action on the issue. He said the approval of the package was an important step toward protecting the livelihoods of fishermen.
The rising cost of fuel has become a major concern for fishing communities in recent years. Many fishermen have struggled to manage operational expenses, especially for boats and transportation activities linked to the fishing business.
Government officials described the subsidy as an important measure for strengthening the province’s coastal economy. The fisheries sector contributes significantly to local business activity, seafood exports, and employment opportunities in Sindh.
The approved Fuel Subsidy is expected to benefit a large number of fishermen working in different coastal regions of the province. Authorities said the initiative would also support economic stability in communities that depend heavily on fishing.
Officials added that the government remains committed to addressing the concerns of workers and industries affected by inflation and rising operational costs. The subsidy package is being viewed as a direct response to demands from the fishing community.
Experts believe such relief measures can help sustain small-scale fishermen who often face financial difficulties due to increasing fuel prices and unstable market conditions.
