The Sindh government has officially declared May 1, 2026, as a public holiday across the province in observance of Labour Day. The move highlights the importance of recognizing workers and their contributions to economic growth and national development.
According to an official notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, the public holiday will be observed on Friday. All government offices functioning under the administrative control of the Sindh government will remain closed for the day.
The notification further states that the holiday will extend to autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils operating within the province. Employees in these institutions will be able to observe the occasion without regular work duties.
Despite the closure of offices, essential services will continue to operate across Sindh. Departments related to healthcare, emergency response, and public utilities will remain active to ensure that citizens do not face any inconvenience during the holiday.
The order was officially issued on April 22, 2026, and signed by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah. The timely announcement allows institutions and employees to plan accordingly while maintaining necessary service arrangements.
Authorities have also indicated that similar announcements are expected from the federal government and other provincial administrations. Labour Day is traditionally observed nationwide, making a countrywide holiday announcement likely in the coming days.
