The Sindh government has announced a new electric scooter training program for women and female students in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, expanding the initiative after its success in Karachi. The program aims to enhance womenβs mobility and independence through sustainable transport solutions.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials reviewed the progress of ongoing transport and mass transit projects across the province. Memon said the Sindh government remains committed to empowering women by improving their access to safe and affordable mobility options.
He added that the electric scooter training program is being run in collaboration with a private partner. The initiative focuses on equipping women with practical riding skills and boosting their confidence to commute independently. Upon completing the training, participants will be provided with free driving licences β a move aimed at reducing financial obstacles and encouraging wider participation.
During the same meeting, the Sindh government also reviewed infrastructure developments related to Karachiβs transport network. Memon confirmed the completion of the Taj Haider Bridge, an important part of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which will soon open to the public.
In addition, the government approved a new electric bus route from Gulshan-e-Maymar to Merewether Tower. The route will feature 15 eco-friendly buses designed to promote modern, sustainable urban transport in Karachi.
The electric scooter training program for women represents a step forward in Sindhβs broader efforts to improve mobility, gender inclusion, and environmental sustainability. By combining innovation with empowerment, the province aims to set a strong example for inclusive transport development in Pakistan.
