Karachi police have intensified efforts to regulate traffic as Sindh IG orders crackdown against unregistered vehicles and drivers without valid licenses. The move follows growing concerns over traffic violations despite the cityโs new electronic challan (e-challan) system.
Introduced in October, the e-challan system records traffic violations via CCTV cameras and issues fines automatically. However, reports indicate that many vehicles are still being driven without proper registration or number plates. Videos shared on social media show unregistered vehicles freely moving on city roads, raising public safety concerns.
In response, Sindh IG orders crackdown with a directive for strict enforcement under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. The instructions include identifying unregistered vehicles, registering cases, seizing vehicles when necessary, and making arrests. Daily reports of enforcement actions are now required to be submitted to the IG Operations Room via email.
The latest directive is the second issued in 35 days, following the first order on October 31, 2025. It has been circulated to all DIGs, SSPs, and senior police officials across Sindh, ensuring that law enforcement authorities take immediate action against violations.
Police officials stated that the crackdown aims to complement the e-challan system, ensuring compliance with traffic laws and improving overall road safety. Citizens have welcomed the move, saying that vehicles without registration or number plates pose a serious risk to commuters.
Experts believe that combining digital enforcement with on-ground action will strengthen accountability and reduce traffic-related violations in Karachi. Authorities have assured the public that strict measures will continue until full compliance is achieved.
With Sindh IG orders crackdown now in effect, city roads are expected to see increased monitoring and stricter enforcement against traffic offenders. This initiative highlights the provinceโs commitment to modernizing traffic management while maintaining public safety.
