The Sindh government has introduced a new cash subsidy program after a sharp rise in petrol and diesel prices. The initiative aims to provide direct financial relief to motorcycle owners struggling with higher fuel costs.
Under the plan, eligible motorcyclists will receive Rs2,000 per month. This cash subsidy is designed to reduce the burden of daily commuting expenses. Officials say the program will benefit a large number of citizens across the province.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah explained that offering discounted fuel at petrol pumps was not practical. Instead, the government chose to provide a cash subsidy directly to citizens through bank or digital accounts. This method ensures transparency and faster delivery of funds.
The subsidy amount is based on a fixed calculation. It covers 20 litres of petrol per month at Rs100 per litre, totaling around Rs2,000. This approach allows the government to provide targeted support without disrupting fuel supply systems.
To qualify for the program, applicants must meet two conditions. The motorcycle must be registered in the rider’s name. The applicant must also have an active bank or digital account. These requirements help ensure that the cash subsidy reaches the correct beneficiaries.
For those using motorcycles registered under another person’s name, the government has waived transfer fees. Citizens can now transfer ownership without cost to become eligible for the scheme.
The Sindh Excise Department is developing a mobile application for registration. The app is expected to be ready within two to three days. Users will register using their CNIC and bank details.
Once verified, payments will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts. Disbursement is expected between April 15 and 20. The program is initially planned as a one-month trial and may continue based on its success.
In addition, the government has announced support for farmers and transport operators. Small farmers will receive Rs1,500 per acre, while transport operators will get monthly financial assistance based on their category.
Officials say the cash subsidy program is part of broader efforts to ease financial pressure on citizens during rising fuel costs.
