Sindh Launches Electric Vehicle Taxi Project to Boost Transport

The Sharjeel Inam Memon inaugurated a new Electric Vehicle (EV) taxi project in Sindh, marking a major step in the provinceโ€™s urban transport initiatives.

The launch ceremony featured the signing of agreements with Sindh Bank, the Sindh Development Fund, and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority to support the rollout and implementation of the project.

Speaking at the event, Memon highlighted that the initiative aims to promote environmentally friendly transport, improve urban mobility, and create employment opportunities for youth across the province.

The minister also emphasized ongoing transport projects, including the Pink Bus service and electric buses, which have attracted international attention. He noted that the Pink Bus is operated entirely by female drivers and conductors, offering safer travel options for women.

Memon added that related initiatives, such as Pink EV scooters, aim to increase womenโ€™s participation in economic activities. While 150 women initially obtained licences for the scooters, more than 20,000 applications have since been received, with training underway for new participants.

He further urged industrialists to invest in EV manufacturing in Pakistan, highlighting the governmentโ€™s priority for electric vehicles in procurement and its plans to encourage manufacturing facilities, particularly in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone.
