Karachi โ Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday launched an online verification and registration system allowing citizens to apply digitally for a targeted fuel subsidy of Rs2,000 per month for motorcycle owners.
Speaking at a press conference at the CM House, Mr. Shah said applicants must enter their CNIC and bank account details on the official portal. Once completed, an automated confirmation will be sent. Only motorcycles registered in the ownerโs name are eligible for the fuel subsidy.
Accompanied by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the chief minister added that the subsidy roughly covers 20 liters of fuel monthly. Payments will be transferred through banks, with Sindh Bank account holders receiving funds within 24 hours, and other bank accounts within three days.
A dedicated helpline has been set up to assist citizens with registration and verification. Excise offices will remain open from 8:00 am to midnight, including weekends, for 15 days to support applicants. The Rs500 motorcycle transfer fee has also been abolished to simplify the process. About 1,500 motorcycles have already been transferred to their rightful owners.
The chief minister emphasized that the fuel subsidy program is part of a broader relief initiative. The provincial government allocated Rs13.4 billion for motorcycles, Rs14.3 billion monthly for transport subsidies, and supports 11,000 private and 470 government-run buses to maintain fare stability.
Additionally, a Rs3 billion subsidy program for small farmers will begin this week. Efforts are also underway to provide direct relief on essential commodities like flour and other food items. Consultations with transporters and tradersโ associations have largely gained support, helping prevent protests over recent fuel price hikes.
