KARACHI – The Sindh Cabinet has approved a wide range of decisions aimed at strengthening food security, supporting workers, and improving public services across the province. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, also endorsed an increase in the Minimum wage and several governance reforms.
The cabinet meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House. Provincial ministers, advisers, senior officials, and the Chief Secretary attended the session. More than one proposal related to economic development, public administration, and social welfare was reviewed during the meeting.
One of the major decisions was the approval to import 500,000 metric tonnes of wheat through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP). Officials said the move is intended to address an expected wheat shortage during the 2026-27 season.
According to the briefing, Sindh is likely to face a wheat deficit of nearly 1.69 million metric tonnes. The province is expected to have around 4.84 million metric tonnes of wheat available, while annual consumption is estimated at 6.53 million metric tonnes.
The wheat import process will be coordinated under a framework developed by the federal government. Officials said the decision is aimed at ensuring stable food supplies and avoiding shortages in the coming months.
The cabinet also accepted recommendations submitted by the Sindh Minimum Wages Board. Under the approved proposal, the Minimum wage has been increased by 7.5 percent with effect from July 1, 2026.
Following the revision, the monthly Minimum wage for unskilled workers will increase from Rs40,000 to Rs43,000. The revised pay structure also includes higher wages for semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers.
The updated wage rates will apply to notified industrial and commercial establishments throughout Sindh. Officials believe the increase will provide financial relief to workers while supporting better living standards.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the cabinet’s decisions are intended to improve food security, strengthen public services, modernize governance, and promote long-term economic growth. He directed all government departments to implement the approved measures without unnecessary delay.
The cabinet also approved the budget for the People’s Community Health Services Company for the financial year 2026-27. The approved funding includes Rs200 million as seed money and a grant of Rs2.723 billion.
Another important decision was the extension of contractual services for employees working in the Education and Medical Departments of Town Municipal Corporation Lyari. The one-year extension will remain effective from March 11, 2026, to March 10, 2027.
The decision covers 254 contractual employees, including 176 workers from the Education Department and 78 from the Medical Department. These employees were originally appointed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation before being transferred following local government restructuring.
The Sindh Cabinet also approved extending the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) programme to Gilgit-Baltistan. Under the plan, 196 flood-damaged houses will be reconstructed at an estimated cost of Rs376.3 million.
In addition, the cabinet approved proposed amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, and the Sindh Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Act, 2025. The proposed changes will now be presented before the Provincial Assembly for consideration.

The latest decisions reflect the provincial government’s focus on economic stability, worker welfare, public services, and development. Officials said implementation of the approved measures will begin through the relevant departments in the coming weeks.
