The Sindh government has announced a major Solar Project to provide mini solar kits to 275,000 low-income families across the province. The initiative aims to improve access to electricity for households facing energy challenges, especially in remote and underserved areas.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Solar Project is being launched on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The provincial government has allocated Rs18.20 billion for the program, which is expected to benefit thousands of families over the next year.
According to the minister, the project has been designed to support both off-grid and grid-connected communities. A total of 132,000 families living in off-grid areas will receive assistance through the scheme. Another 143,000 families from grid-connected areas will also benefit.
The government said the Solar Project will focus on helping low-income households and residents of distant regions where access to reliable electricity remains limited. Officials believe the initiative will improve daily living conditions and reduce dependence on traditional power sources.
Under the program, every eligible family will receive a mini solar kit. Each kit includes a 180-watt solar panel, batteries, fans, and energy-efficient bulbs. These systems are expected to provide basic electricity for household needs and help reduce electricity costs.
Officials said the solar kits are designed to offer a practical and affordable energy solution for families. The systems will allow users to power essential household appliances, particularly in areas where electricity supply is unreliable or unavailable.
The provincial government has already started implementing the project. According to Sharjeel Memon, more than 15,000 families have already received their solar kits during the initial phase of the program.
Authorities plan to continue the distribution process in stages across Sindh. The government aims to complete the delivery of solar kits to all 275,000 eligible households by June 2027.
Officials said the project reflects the government’s efforts to promote renewable energy while supporting vulnerable communities. Expanding access to clean energy is expected to improve the quality of life for families that struggle with limited electricity access.
The government also believes the initiative will help reduce household energy expenses. Families using solar power may become less dependent on conventional electricity and fuel-based energy sources.
Sharjeel Memon said the provincial administration remains committed to ensuring that deserving families receive support through transparent distribution. The government will continue monitoring the implementation process to ensure the project reaches all intended beneficiaries.
