Sindh to Launch New Bus Routes, EV Taxis and PPP Transport Projects

The Sindh government has announced several new transport initiatives to improve public travel across the province. The plans include exclusive bus routes, a new People’s Bus Service, and electric vehicle projects.

The decisions were made during a meeting of the Department of Transport and Mass Transit. The meeting was chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Officials reviewed ongoing and upcoming transport projects across Sindh.

One of the key decisions was to introduce exclusive bus routes under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The government plans to attract private investment while improving public transport services.

Under the PPP model, modern air-conditioned electric buses will operate on dedicated routes. These routes will be offered to private investors through a competitive bidding process.

Officials said the initiative aims to improve transport quality and encourage greater private sector participation. The government expects the project to make public transport more efficient and reliable.

The meeting also approved the launch of a new People’s Bus Service route between Larkana and Qambar. Sharjeel Inam Memon directed officials to begin the service as soon as possible.

According to the minister, the new route will improve travel between the two districts. It is also expected to support local businesses and strengthen economic activity in the region.

Officials briefed the meeting on the progress of the EV taxi project. They said consultations with relevant stakeholders are continuing before the service is introduced.

The minister said an environmentally friendly EV taxi service will soon begin operations in Karachi. The project is part of broader efforts to promote cleaner and more sustainable transportation.

The meeting also reviewed the performance of existing mass transit services. Officials reported a significant increase in passenger numbers on both the Green Line and Orange Line.

Daily ridership on the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit system has increased from 50,000 to 81,000 passengers. The Orange Line has also recorded strong growth, rising from 1,800 to 9,800 passengers each day.

Officials said the increase reflects growing public confidence in mass transit services. More commuters are choosing public transport for daily travel.

Sharjeel Inam Memon also addressed the misuse of Pink electric scooters. He instructed authorities to take strict action against unauthorized users.

The minister warned that scooters used by men or altered through color changes would be confiscated. He added that legal action would also be taken against those violating the rules.
