Doctors at Lyari Hospital Remove Metal Lock from Woman’s Stomach Without Surgery

In a groundbreaking medical procedure, doctors at Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital in Karachi successfully removed a metal lock from the stomach of a 23-year-old woman with mental challenges, without the need for surgery.

The woman, from Khokhrapar, had accidentally swallowed the metal lock during a critical episode. This alarming situation prompted immediate medical attention, and doctors were quick to act.

X-ray Reveals a Foreign Object Inside the Stomach

Upon arrival at the hospital, the woman presented with severe abdominal pain and signs of distress. To determine the cause, an X-ray was performed, revealing a metal lock lodged in her stomach. This discovery raised concerns about potential internal damage or blockage, requiring swift medical intervention.

Laparoscopy Used to Safely Remove the Lock

Rather than opting for invasive surgery, the medical team at Lyari General Hospital decided to use laparoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure, to remove the metal lock.

This technique allowed doctors to extract the foreign object without making large incisions. Professor Anjum Rehman, a senior medical expert, confirmed the success of the procedure, assuring that the woman’s life was no longer in danger.

“This was a high-risk case, especially considering the patient’s mental health condition and the nature of the object,” said Professor Rehman. “However, thanks to early diagnosis and skilled teamwork, we were able to avoid full surgery.”

Patient Stable and Under Observation

After the successful procedure, the woman’s condition is stable. She is currently under observation to ensure there are no complications.

The medical staff at Sindh Government Lyari General Hospital have been praised for their quick thinking and efficient use of laparoscopy. The procedure is being hailed as a “life-saving intervention.”

This case highlights the importance of timely medical intervention and the use of advanced, non-invasive techniques in handling complex medical emergencies.

The successful removal of the metal lock has brought relief to both the patient and her family, showcasing the incredible capabilities of modern medical treatments.
