SSGC Announces Temporary Gas Suspension in Karachi Areas This Weekend

KARACHI โ€“ The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in several areas of Karachi to facilitate important pipeline work linked to the K-IV Project.

According to a statement issued by SSGC, the company has completed the re-routing of a 20-inch high-pressure gas pipeline located on University Road. The work was carried out between Nipa Bridge and the Essa Nagri DMS area near Hassan Square.

The utility company said the final phase of the project involves a hook-up activity that will connect the newly re-routed pipeline. This work is scheduled to take place during the night between June 20 and June 21.

To safely complete the operation, SSGC will temporarily shut down gas supply in affected areas. The planned suspension will begin at 10:00pm on Saturday and continue until 10:00am on Sunday.

According to the company, all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal will experience a gas outage during the scheduled maintenance period. Residents have been advised to make necessary arrangements before the shutdown begins.

The gas utility also warned that some important institutions could face temporary disruptions during nighttime hours. These include Karachi Central Prison, Aga Khan University Hospital, Liaquat National Hospital, and Medicare Hospital.

Officials stated that the shutdown is necessary to ensure the safe completion of the final hook-up activity. The project forms part of infrastructure work connected to the K-IV Project, which is considered important for the city’s development.

The company said dedicated teams will remain on-site throughout the operation. Engineers and technical staff will work continuously to complete the task within the planned timeframe.

SSGC emphasized that every effort will be made to restore gas supply as soon as possible after the work is completed. The company added that the duration of the outage has been carefully planned to minimize inconvenience for consumers.

Residents in affected areas are encouraged to use gas cautiously before the shutdown and remain patient during the maintenance work.

In its statement, SSGC expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers. The company thanked consumers for their cooperation and understanding while the necessary pipeline work is carried out.
