A tragic incident occurred in Hafizabad where a first-year student took her own life after failing her annual examination. The heartbreaking case has once again raised concerns over growing academic pressure among students.
According to police, the student, identified as Tayyaba, consumed acid after learning she had failed her exams. Her family immediately took her to the trauma center, but despite doctors’ best efforts, she could not survive.
Tayyaba’s father told police that his daughter was deeply upset about her results. He said that she had been under emotional stress since the announcement of her failure, which tragically led her to take this extreme step.
Earlier, a similar incident was reported in Upper Dir, where a 15-year-old girl named Anmol ended her life after receiving her matric exam results. Police said that Anmol had scored 1,010 out of 1,200 marks under the Malakand Board but was still unhappy with her performance. Overcome by distress, she shot herself. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
In another recent case, a 19-year-old student from Government College Women University (GCWU) attempted suicide after receiving low marks. The student, identified as Zainab, jumped from the stairs in despair. Rescue 1122 officials immediately shifted her to Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she is now in stable condition.
These back-to-back incidents highlight the urgent need for mental health awareness and counseling programs in educational institutions. Experts say that the growing pressure to achieve high academic scores is pushing many young students into depression and anxiety.
Authorities have urged parents and teachers to provide emotional support to students and encourage open communication about failure and stress. They emphasized that no exam result is worth a life and that timely counseling could help prevent such tragedies in the future.
