Successful Rangers-Police Operation Rescues SHO and Four Others in Shikarpur, Sindh

In a collaborative operation conducted by the Rangers and police in Sindh’s Shikarpur district, five individuals, including a police officer, his son, and three other policemen who were abducted by armed bandits, have been successfully rescued. The incident took place on October 11 when a group of over 30 armed dacoits from the Budhani Jatoi gang attacked the Kot Shahu police station in the riverine area of Khanpur, abducting the five victims, which included SHO Brohi and his son, who is a trainee in the police force.

Authorities suspect that this audacious abduction was orchestrated to exert pressure on the police to release Mahar Budhani Jatoi, who had been apprehended in Qambar-Shahdadkot. A substantial law enforcement operation is currently underway to combat the criminal gangs operating in the northern Sindh and southern Punjab regions.

A case has been registered against 14 alleged dacoits associated with the Budhani Jatoi gang and 16 unidentified individuals who facilitated their activities. The charges include sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act, all filed at the Kot Shahu police station.

Among the named suspects are Dado, Banhu, Abdul Haq, Jabbar, Ghulam Mustafa, Popat, Ali Murad, Hazooro, Gaman, and Shaukat. Initially, a significant police contingent pursued the gang deep into the riverine area of Kot Shahu but was unable to apprehend them. Subsequently, a combined Rangers-police task force, equipped with armored personnel carriers (APCs), entered the neighboring Naparkot riverine area to secure the release of the hostages and apprehend the criminals. However, until October 14, the law enforcement agencies had not located the abductees.

Shikarpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Khalid Mustafa Korai, has confirmed the latest development, announcing that the weapons and ammunition taken by the dacoits have also been successfully recovered. The rescue operation took place within the jurisdiction of Kot Shahu Police Station and led to the safe recovery of the abductees, identified as SHO Brohi’s son, Mohammad Ali, head moharir Kot Shahu Police Station, Naeem Gopang, and policemen Jan Mohammad Bakhrani and Ayaz Kumbhar.

SSP Korai emphasized that joint operations by the Rangers and police are ongoing in the riverine areas of upper Sindh, with the aim of eliminating dacoit activity, particularly in the dacoit-infested Shikarpur district.
