Suicide Bombing Targets Shia Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai Area

Islamabad witnessed a shocking incident on Friday as an explosion occurred at a Shia mosque, Imambargah Qasr-e-Khadijatul Kubra, in Tarlai. Initial reports suggest the blast was a suspected suicide bombing.

Eyewitnesses told authorities that the suspected bomber was noticed before the attack. Attempts were reportedly made to stop him, triggering the explosion. The incident took place shortly after Friday prayers, when the mosque was crowded with worshippers.

Police and emergency teams quickly responded to the scene. Hospitals across Islamabad—including Pims, Polyclinic Hospital, and CDA Hospital—were placed on full emergency alert. Medical staff activated emergency protocols to handle the sudden influx of casualties.

At Pims, the main emergency ward, orthopaedic department, burn centre, and neurology unit were all prepared to receive the injured. Rescue teams swiftly transferred victims from the mosque to these hospitals, where doctors worked under high-pressure conditions.

Authorities confirmed that several people sustained injuries in the blast. The exact number of casualties is still being verified. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched investigations to determine the circumstances and identify the perpetrator.

This attack comes months after a deadly suicide blast outside the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad’s G-11 sector on November 11, 2025. That attack claimed a dozen lives and left more than two dozen people injured, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the capital.

The administration has urged residents to remain calm while assuring strict security measures in the city. Police and intelligence agencies are coordinating to prevent further incidents and bring those responsible to justice.

Investigations are ongoing, and officials have requested witnesses to provide any information that may help in identifying the attackers.

The incident has once again raised concerns over public safety and security protocols in Islamabad, particularly in religious and crowded areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any escalation.
