A major development has emerged in the tragic Murder Case of eight-year-old Muntaha, whose death shocked residents across Sargodha and beyond.
According to Sargodha Police, the main suspect, identified as Arslan, was killed during a police operation in the Jhal Chakian area. Authorities said the incident occurred while a Crime Investigation Department (CID) team was taking the suspect to recover the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
Police officials stated that armed men suddenly attacked the police team during the operation. The attackers reportedly opened fire on the officers, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, Arslan was allegedly struck by bullets fired by his own accomplices. He died at the scene before receiving medical assistance. The remaining suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Police have launched a search operation and formed special teams to arrest the fleeing individuals. Authorities said efforts are underway to identify and track all those involved.
The Murder Case has remained under intense public attention since the young girl’s body was discovered. Following the incident, police formed a six-member investigation team on the instructions of Sargodha District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf.
Investigators arrested six suspects during the course of the probe. Those taken into custody included the main suspect, a shop owner, his son, and several other individuals allegedly linked to the case.
Police also obtained CCTV footage during the investigation. According to officials, the footage showed Muntaha entering a shop. However, investigators said there was no footage showing her leaving the premises afterward.
Authorities also examined reports of a possible personal dispute involving the victim’s family. Police looked into claims that Muntaha’s father had an argument with a shop owner days before the incident and had allegedly received threats.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of the child has been completed. Doctors said the final medical report will take additional time and is expected to provide more details regarding the exact cause of death.
The Murder Case has deeply affected the local community. Muntaha was laid to rest after funeral prayers attended by a large number of relatives and residents. During the funeral, family members and community leaders demanded justice and called for strict punishment for everyone found responsible.
