Two children lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries after a roof collapses due to rain in Tandlianwala, Punjab, on Monday.
According to Rescue 1122, the incident occurred in Village 609. The roof, made of T-iron and girders, gave way during heavy rainfall.
Rescue teams reached the site quickly. They recovered the victims trapped under the debris and shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
The injured include two women and five children. Doctors said the condition of the two women is critical.
The children who lost their lives were identified as 12-year-old Raheela and her 9-year-old brother, Abu Zar. Locals reported that several other houses in the area were also damaged by the downpour.
This is not the first such tragedy in recent days. Just days earlier, at least seven people, including five children, died when the roof of a private academy collapsed in Sukheke near Pindi Bhattian.
Rescue teams rushed to that scene as well, pulling students and staff from the rubble. Many were injured, while seven bodies, mostly children, were recovered.
Incidents like these highlight the dangers of poorly constructed buildings, especially during the monsoon. Experts say roofs built with weak materials are at higher risk when heavy rain hits.
Authorities have urged residents living in old or damaged houses to take extra precautions. They also appealed to local administrations to conduct safety inspections in vulnerable areas.
As roof collapses due to rain continue to cause loss of life, officials stressed the importance of timely rescue operations and stronger construction practices.
