Violent Clashes in Muridke: TLP Protest Turns Deadly, SHO Killed and Dozens Injured

A violent confrontation between Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protesters and Punjab Police broke out in Muridke, resulting in the tragic death of SHO Shehzad Nawaz Jhamat and leaving several others injured. The clashes mark a serious escalation in the ongoing β€œLabbaik Aqsa” march, which began in Lahore and was intended to reach Islamabad.

According to official sources, security forces launched a late-night operation after TLP supporters refused to disperse. Police and paramilitary units used tear gas to control the crowd, while the protesters claimed that their leadership container was set on fire during the crackdown.

Footage from Muridke quickly spread across social media, showing chaotic scenes of tear gas, injured individuals, and burning vehicles.

Authorities confirmed that multiple officers sustained injuries during the operation. Meanwhile, TLP claimed that its chief, Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, along with other senior leaders, were shot and critically injured. The party further alleged that several of its activists were killed or wounded, though these claims could not be independently verified.

Officials stated that the government had called for negotiations with TLP representatives overnight, but the group failed to respond.

As tensions grew, police began a full-scale operation that continued into Fajr prayers. To maintain order, Section 144 has been imposed in Muridke and surrounding areas, while mobile internet services have been suspended to curb misinformation and unrest.

The TLP march, which started from Lahore on October 10, was organized to protest Israeli actions in Gaza. However, the movement stalled in Muridke over the weekend before turning violent. DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran reported that TLP workers attacked law enforcement personnel, injuring over 100 and taking several hostage.

The situation in Muridke remains tense as authorities brace for potential nationwide unrest following the deadly confrontation.
