Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has stated that TLP seminaries handed over to Mufti Muneeb after ban, says CM Maryam, confirming a major administrative step regarding religious institutions linked to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). She noted that the government is committed to maintaining peace and ensuring lawful oversight over all religious seminaries in the province.
According to the Chief Minister, the TLP seminaries handed over to Mufti Muneeb after ban, says CM Maryam decision was taken after the party was banned due to its involvement in violent protests and law-and-order disturbances. She explained that once the ban was implemented, authorities moved quickly to avoid any power vacuum inside these institutions. Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, a respected religious scholar and former chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, was selected to take control of the seminaries to ensure proper management.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that the goal behind this administrative move is not political pressure, but the safety and stability of communities. She further added that the government will continue to monitor and regulate these religious institutions to prevent any misuse or incitement to violence. She also assured that clerics and students in those seminaries will be protected and allowed to continue their studies without interruption.
Officials note that more reforms may follow in the coming months. A policy review is underway to ensure that all seminaries operate under national laws and contribute positively to society. Analysts say the announcement highlights Punjab’s new approach under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership — focusing on accountability while maintaining cooperation with peaceful religious scholars.
The Chief Minister also emphasised that transparency will be prioritised in managing religious schools and their finances. She said the provincial government respects freedom of religion but will not allow any group to challenge the state’s authority or disrupt public order.
In summary, TLP seminaries handed over to Mufti Muneeb after ban, says CM Maryam reflects a significant shift in the management of banned group-linked institutions. The government believes this step will reduce security concerns and improve oversight in the religious education sector.
