Toshakhana 2 Case: Witnesses Admit Undervaluing Jewellery, Taking Double Salary

Toshakhana 2 Case

RAWALPINDI: New revelations have surfaced in the ongoing Toshakhana 2 case, as two key witnesses gave confessional statements before the court. The case involves Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

According to statements obtained by authorities, former personal secretary Inamullah Shah admitted to receiving double salaries between 2019 and 2021. He said he was paid both from the PTI and his government position. Shah also confessed that he pressured a private appraiser to undervalue a Bulgari jewellery set gifted to the former prime minister and his wife by the Saudi royal family.

Shah claimed he instructed appraiser Sohaib Abbasi to reduce the value of the jewellery set. He added that he later lost his position due to Bushra Bibi’s displeasure, not because of the double salary issue.

Private appraiser Abbasi also confirmed the account in court. He admitted to undervaluing the jewellery set under pressure and out of fear of losing government work. Abbasi said Shah warned him that failure to comply would result in blacklisting from official departments. He also recorded statements before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and a magistrate.

According to NAB officials, the jewellery set, consisting of a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and a ring, was worth around Rs75 million. However, it was valued at only Rs 5.9 million on official records. The undervaluation allegedly caused a loss of over Rs35 million to the national exchequer.

The reference filed by NAB states that Bushra Bibi received the Bulgari set during a visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021. It claims that the jewellery was not deposited in the Toshakhana as required by law. Records from the company show the necklace alone had sold for €300,000, while the earrings were valued at €80,000.

The anti-graft body further alleged that Khan and his wife received 108 gifts from foreign leaders during his time in office between 2018 and 2022. Many of these, including the jewellery set, were allegedly kept in violation of rules.

The case has now entered its final stages, with testimony from important witnesses shaping the proceedings.
